Secondary Realignment beginning in August
Dear Seymour High School Parents and Students,
I am writing to express my excitement as we prepare for the upcoming school year, marking the successful transition of all 9th grade students back to our high school! After collecting data and discussing the Jr./Sr. configuration with parents, students, and staff, we feel that the return to a full 9-12 model will provide the most cohesive and supportive educational experience possible. Welcoming our freshmen back to the high school will ensure that every student's journey toward graduation is guided under one unified administrative, guidance, and instructional team from the moment they walk through our doors. By consolidating all four high school grade levels, we are streamlining academic advising, allowing for quicker and more tailored student interventions, and dramatically increasing access to a wider variety of specialized courses, extracurricular clubs, art programs, and athletics starting in their freshman year. We believe this unified approach will strengthen student progress, maximize teacher collaboration, and ultimately increase the success of every student earning their diploma.
For those of you with a newly arriving 9th grade student, please be aware of the logistical changes. All freshmen will now attend classes and be served entirely within the high school building, sharing our facilities and resources with our 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Over the summer, we plan to finalize transition planning, classroom assignments, and master schedules to accommodate this change efficiently. Remember, early registration for students who are new to our community is scheduled for July 9, 2026. Specific details regarding schedule pick-up and first day of school logistics will follow in a separate communications letter this summer. We will be happy to announce a specific date and time for our 9th Grade Orientation (to place in August here at the high school) when the planning is finalized. We understand transitions can involve adjustments, and we are dedicated to making this a seamless and exciting start for all students. We have plenty of room to welcome all our students at Seymour High School without overcrowding. We are energized by the opportunity this change brings to better serve our community and look forward to partnering with you for a fantastic school year!
See you soon!
Regards,
Mr. Greg Haggard
