​Hello, Seymour High School!

Welcome to this week's edition of the SHS Weekly Highlights! We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged. You will find information and important dates for the week of April 27 to May 1, 2026.

Attention Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of the school year, we want to thank you for your continued support. Over the next few weeks, students will be participating in important assessments, including state tests, AP exams, and semester finals. These evaluations play a key role in academic progress and future opportunities.

We remind families of the importance of daily attendance, especially during this critical time. Every school day matters, as students engage in essential instruction and preparation for exams. Chronic absenteeism, regardless of whether absences are excused or not, can impact academic success.

Please encourage your student to attend school regularly, arrive on time, and stay engaged. If your family is facing challenges that may affect attendance, we are here to support you. Thank you for helping us ensure a successful end to the school year!

Lunch Menu: April 27 to May 1 (Week 1)

All menu items are subject to change at any time.
Monday, April 27: Cheeseburger
Tuesday, April 28: Hot Dogs and Chili
Wednesday, April 29: Soup and Grilled Cheese
Thursday, April 30: Breakfast
Friday, May 1: Pizza

For further clarification regarding the SHS Cafeteria:
1. If a child has a charge of any amount, they CANNOT purchase any ala carte items until the charge is paid off. Any money given to the cafeteria will go to that charge, and the staff has to decline the students if they wanted anything extra.
2. The cafeteria now has sweet tea available for sale. 16oz cup of tea is $1.25. If a student wants to pay for a second cup, they must get a NEW cup and pay the additional $1.25.
3. We also have ice available for the tea. If they just want a cup of ice, it is a charge of $0.15 per cup of ice.

Parents/Guardians: If you have not completed the free/reduced lunch cards, please do so online through THIS LINK then scroll to the bottom left where you will see a link titled: Online Free & Reduced School Meals Application Form. It is important that all families complete this process REGARDLESS OF ECONOMIC STATUS, as the more participation we have in completing the application, the higher the chance of our district being able to continue granting free and reduced lunches for all students. 

Parents/Guardians: school meals are free during a specific window. Prior to the window of free meals for all students, lunch fees will continue to accrue and do carry over year to year, school to school. The first serving of breakfast and first serving of lunch are free--seconds or thirds or any extra items are not included in the free program. You may use this link MyPaymentsPlus to pay your student's negative balance and add money to his or her lunch account. You can also set up payments plans to work towards paying down any balance your student has from years past.

On senior awards night, we will present all scholarships awarded to each student. The deadline for all accepted or not accepted scholarships turned in is April 29 to Mrs. Fox. ONLY copies of scholarship offers given to Mrs. Fox by April 29 will be recognized. Simply take a screenshot of your scholarships/grants from the schools you've applied to and send them to Mrs. Fox. If you have any questions, stop by Mrs. Fox's office!

Attendance

All students are expected to be present and on time each day. Should your student have to miss school, please send a doctor or parent note to Ms. Tammy at tamelaemert@sevier.org or to Ms. Trish at trishsimpson@sevier.org.
Parent Notes:
  • 5 per semester
  • Must be turned in with 2 days of an absence. Failure to provide a note will result in the absence being unexcused.
  • 5 unexcused absences will result in a student moving to Tier 2 in the truancy intervention plans. 
  • Students are encouraged to bein the building by 7:55 am. Students who are not in their first period classrooms by 8 am will receive an un-excused tardy for that class period. Students checking in after 8:20 am will accrue an unexcused absence for that class period.

SCSS Board Policy 6.200: For every unexcused absence, 3 points are to be deducted from the daily average only if there was no daily grade for that day. One point is deducted from the daily average for every unexcused tardy (missing less than 20 minutes at the beginning or the end of class). Students can make up tests whether the absence is excused or unexcused.  
 

Skyward Grades

Parents and guardians have access to student grades via the Skyward Gradebook system. Your student knows his or her login information: user name is FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME and the password should be your student's lunch number. If you cannot access the gradebook at any time, please call 865-577-7040 and Dr. Messer (assistant principal) or Ms. Sondra Owenby (registrar) can reset the information. Progress reports should be sent home every three weeks into the six-week grading period, and grade cards are sent home after every six-week grading period is complete. If you are having issues with Parent Square, you can go to the app via the Apple App Store of the Google Play Store. The information provided to the school and loaded into your student's Skyward profile is synced with the Parent Square app every 24 hours.
