SHS Weekly Highlights

2025-2026

March 13, 2026
Seymour High School

Hello, Seymour High School!

Welcome to this week's edition of the SHS Weekly Highlights! We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged. You will find information and important dates for the week of March 16 to 20, 2026.

Students: a reminder from administration regarding hall passes: "Going forward, if you are in the hallway without a digital pass created, you will be escorted straight to ISS. You are responsible for making sure your teacher has created the pass before leaving the classroom if that is the route you choose, but there needs to be a pass in the cue n order to be in the hallway for any reason/destination. This includes: front office and guidance when being called to that location. This is the final warning/notice that is going to be given."

We want to extend a friendly reminder to returning students and all new students regarding our afternoon traffic flow, particularly out front where all high school car riders are picked up:

When entering campus from Boyds Creek Highway, car riders will be picked up from the horseshoe loop that goes in front of the main entrance. There will be two lanes for pick up once you are in "the loop." If you are directed into a specific lane by our bus duty admin, please stay in that lane to prevent any fender benders.  The "Back Road" from Pitner Rd, which goes between our stadium and the junior high school, is a one way road in the afternoons. Our student drivers utilize both lanes of this exit at the stadium, and the right lane before the stadium breezeway is used for student drivers or faculty who are picking younger children up from the junior high school.

Any parent whose children attend the junior high school and DO NOT have classes at the high school, you must enter the junior high pick-up line from Pitner Rd. You are not able to use the high school parking lot as a "cut through." If your child is a 9th grade student who has a class at the high school during 4th period, your student will be dismissed from the high school. If your 9th grade student is a car rider and has a 4th period at the high school, you will pick him or her up from the front of the high school in the car rider lines. The front of the high school is also where any 9th grade student with a 4th period at the high school will catch any of the buses.

Any time buses are entering or exiting our campus, all vehicle traffic will be stopped by bus duty admin to give buses the necessary space to enter campus, safely load and unload bus riders, and exit campus. When the buses are through loading all riders, traffic will be allowed to flow again. We thank you for your cooperation in helping us ensure the safety of all students, parents, and faculty on our campus. Go Eagles!

For further clarification regarding the SHS Cafeteria:
1. If a child has a charge of any amount, they CANNOT purchase any ala carte items until the charge is paid off. Any money given to the cafeteria will go to that charge, and the staff has to decline the students if they wanted anything extra.
2. The cafeteria now has sweet tea available for sale. 16oz cup of tea is $1.00. If a student wants to pay for a second cup, they must get a NEW cup and pay the additional $1.00.
3. We also have ice available for the tea. If they just want a cup of ice, it is a charge of $0.15 per cup of ice.

Parents/Guardians: If you have not completed the free/reduced lunch cards, please do so online through THIS LINK then scroll to the bottom left where you will see a link titled: Online Free & Reduced School Meals Application FormIt is important that all families complete this process REGARDLESS OF ECONOMIC STATUS, as the more participation we have in completing the application, the higher the chance of our district being able to continue granting free and reduced lunches for all students

Parents/Guardians: school meals are free during a specific window. Prior to the window of free meals for all students, lunch fees will continue to accrue and do carry over year to year, school to school. The first serving of breakfast and first serving of lunch are free--seconds or thirds or any extra items are not included in the free program. You may use this link MyPaymentsPlus to pay your student's negative balance and add money to his or her lunch account. You can also set up payments plans to work towards paying down any balance your student has from years past.

Important Announcements:

Sophomores and Juniors:
There will be a meeting on Tuesday, March 17th, at 5:30 in the cafeteria for parents and
students interested in taking dual enrollment courses next year. A rep from Walters State
will be here to discuss dual enrollment and the process. This will be an informational
meeting only. Please make plans to attend this meeting. At a separate meeting during the
school day, students will sign up for Walters State and register for any fall dual enrollment
classes they want to take.
Juniors:
Immediately following the dual enrollment meeting on March 17th at 6:00 pm, we will
have a junior parent night meeting in the cafeteria discussing information about upcoming senior items and getting ready for senior year. Make sure to attend so you are in the loop about all things senior year!
___________________________________________________________________________________
Sign up for Walters State classes for 1st semester will be held on Wednesday, March 18th. It is a mandatory meeting you must attend to register with Walters State. There will be a before school option or an after school option to attend.
Times are:
Wednesday, March 18th at 7:15 AM in the library
or
Wednesday, March 18th at 2:45 right after school in the cafeteria.

You only need to choose one to attend. This meeting is for anyone wanting to take the English Comp classes at SHS or Psych/Speech classes at SHS and if any students are wanting to take summer online classes or online classes 1st semester with Walters State. If you are wanting to take our Stats/Music class with Walters State, you do not need to sign up yet as that class is only 2nd semester, so we will sign up for those classes with you later.

Please make plans to attend either meeting if you are wanting to take Walters State classes 1st semester. You will actually be registering with Walters State so they can enroll you in those courses. You need to know before you come to the meeting what classes you want to take and will be signing up for.

Attendance

All students are expected to be present and on time each day. Should your student have to miss school, please send a doctor or parent note to Ms. Tammy at tamelaemert@sevier.org or to Ms. Trish at trishsimpson@sevier.org.
Parent Notes:
  • 5 per semester
  • Must be turned in with 2 days of an absence. Failure to provide a note will result in the absence being unexcused.
  • 5 unexcused absences will result in a student moving to Tier 2 in the truancy intervention plans.
  • Students are encouraged to bein the building by 7:55 am. Students who are not in their first period classrooms by 8 am will receive an un-excused tardy for that class period. Students checking in after 8:20 am will accrue an unexcused absence for that class period.

SCSS Board Policy 6.200: For every unexcused absence, 3 points are to be deducted from the daily average only if there was no daily grade for that day. One point is deducted from the daily average for every unexcused tardy (missing less than 20 minutes at the beginning or the end of class). Students can make up tests whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

Skyward Grades

Parents and guardians have access to student grades via the Skyward Gradebook system. Your student knows his or her login information: user name is FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME and the password should be your student's lunch number. If you cannot access the gradebook at any time, please call 865-577-7040 and Dr. Messer (assistant principal) or Ms. Sondra Owenby (registrar) can reset the information. Progress reports should be sent home every three weeks into the six-week grading period, and grade cards are sent home after every six-week grading period is complete. You can use this link to access Skyward.
