SHS Weekly Highlights

2025-2026

October 3, 2025
Seymour High School

Hello, Seymour High School!

Welcome to this week's edition of the SHS Weekly Highlights! We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged. You will find information and important dates for the week of Oct. 6--10, 2025. It's Homecoming Week!

Reminder:
Students are only allowed to enter the school building at acceptable entry points: main doors at the front lobby (all day) and the 300 wing entrance during morning bus duty. The doors at the Ag Hallway (between the junior high and the high school) are to only be used by freshmen students who are being escorted by a teacher (during morning bus duty) and between class changes when administration is in that hall. No other student is to use any other entry point. When students arrive on campus, they are to come into the building immediately. Students are not permitted to sit in their vehicles after arriving on campus.

Students who park on the school campus must purchase a parking tag from Mrs. Maples in the front office. Parking passes are $20 and the required form must be filled out by the student and the parent. Forms are available in the front office. Remember, this is a requirement if you drive to school.

Dress code: please be mindful of the policy on shorts, skirts, bare shoulders and midriffs, backpacks, etc. Students were reminded during class meetings last week. Consequences for continuous violations will be handed down.

Cell phones and electronic devices: students are reminded that all cell phones and other wireless electronic devices (other than the school issued chromebooks) are prohibited during instructional hours. This includes the use of ear buds, smart watches, personal laptops and tablets, and old chromebooks that have been removed from the system.

Attendance

All students are expected to be present and on time each day. Should your student have to miss school, please send a doctor or parent note to Ms. Tammy at tamelaemert@sevier.org or to Ms. Trish at trishsimpson@sevier.org.
Parent Notes:
  • 5 per semester
  • Must be turned in with 2 days of an absence. Failure to provide a note will result in the absence being unexcused.
  • 5 unexcused absences will result in a student moving to Tier 2 in the truancy intervention plans.
  • Students are encouraged to bein the building by 7:55 am. Students who are not in their first period classrooms by 8 am will receive an un-excused tardy for that class period. Students checking in after 8:20 am will accrue an unexcused absence for that class period.

SCSS Board Policy 6.200:  For every unexcused absence, 3 points are to be deducted from the daily average only if there was no daily grade for that day. One point is deducted from the daily average for every unexcused tardy (missing less than 20 minutes at the beginning or the end of class). Students can make up tests whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

Lunch Menu: Oct. 6-10 (week 1)

All menu items are subject to change at any time:
Monday: Cheeseburgers
Tuesday: Fish and Hushpuppies (Smartmouth pizza is also available today)
Wednesday: Chicken Tenders
Thursday: Hot Dogs with Chili
Friday: Wild Mike's Pizza

For further clarification regarding the SHS Cafeteria:
1. If a child has a charge of any amount, they CANNOT purchase any ala carte items until the charge is paid off. Any money given to the cafeteria will go to that charge, and the staff has to decline the students if they wanted anything extra.
2. The cafeteria now has sweet tea available for sale. 16oz cup of tea is $1.00. If a student wants to pay for a second cup, they must get a NEW cup and pay the additional $1.00.
3. We also have ice available for the tea. If they just want a cup of ice, it is a charge of $0.15 per cup of ice.

Parents/Guardians: If you have not completed the free/reduced lunch cards, please do so online through THIS LINK then scroll to the bottom left where you will see a link titled: Online Free & Reduced School Meals Application Form. It is important that all families complete this process regardless of economic status, as the more participation we have in completing the application, the higher the chance of our district being able to grant free and reduced lunches for all students. Parents/Guardians: school meals ARE NOT free at this time. Student lunch fees will continue to accrue and carry over year to year. You may use this link MyPaymentsPlus to pay your student's balance and add money to his or her lunch account.

Skyward Grades

Parents and guardians have access to student grades via the Skyward Gradebook system. Your student knows his or her login information: user name is FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME and the password should be your student's lunch number. If you cannot access the gradebook at any time, please call 865-577-7040 and Dr. Messer (assistant principal) or Ms. Sondra Owenby (registrar) can reset the information. Progress reports should be sent home every three weeks into the six-week grading period, and grade cards are sent home after every six-week grading period is complete. You can use this link to access Skyward.
